Google’s Chrome Browser Makes its Debut

More press for the new open source Google Chrome browser. The coverage here on MozillaLinks also includes comments from Mozilla’s own contributors as well. Although I have to say I agree with Disruptive Innovations’/Mozilla’s Daniel Glazmans comments about the new browser:

Your search engine is google, your mail is google mail, your docs are on google docs, your maps are google, the ads you see are google, your system is Android, your browser is Google Chrome. Did someone hear the word “monopoly” ?

Let’s see it from the bright side of life: there’s a new OSS and standards-compliant browser and that’s good, and there’s a high probability Steve Ballmer is currently breaking a few chairs and it’s even better.

A monopoly is never good for competition and Browser Wars 2 does bring back fond memories of the latter 20th Century AKA the late 90’s with Microsoft driving at Netscape until it was sold off to AOL. But having said that, dethroning Microsoft and giving a big push to OSS at the same time is never a bad thing ;-)

That being said, the new beta is now available for download from it’s project home page here and is currently available form the Win32 platform with Mac and Linux on the way.

The post itself also goes through the various features including it’s anti-malware, WebKit rendering engine and V8 JavaScript engine.
